49.  Not a Box, by Antoinette Portis

Portis, A. (2006). Not a box. NY: HarperCollins.

Children explore the power of the imagination with a rabbit as a guide. As the rabbit insists that a box is not a box, he reveals that it can be a race car, a mountain,  a burning building, a robot suit, a ship, a boat, a hot air balloon, and a rocket ship.  It can be anything but a box.

This book has a neat cover.  It feels like a cardboard box. It has simple text and words.  The illustrations have a red/yellow theme-makes the artwork really stand out. This book ‘s theme is imagination.  A box can be whatever rabbit wants it to be.  It is a good lesson for young kids today.  Get off the technology every once in a while, and use your imagination.  I found a lesson plan to go along with this book. It has pre-reading activities, group reading, and about the author activities.
