43. Cowgirl Kate and Cocoa, by Erica Silverman

43.   Cowgirl Kate and Cocoa, by Erica Silverman

Silverman, E. (2005). Cowgirl Kate and Cocoa. NY: Harcourt.

This is the first book in the Cowgirl Kate and Cocoa series.  It tells the story of Cowgirl Kate her stubborn but devoted cow horse, Cocoa, who is always hungry. Together they count the herd, ride the range, share a story and, of course, argue till the cows come home. In the end they help each other fall asleep.

This book is a good beginner chapter book.  It could be used for guided reading in Kindergarten or independent reading for first and second grades. The illustrations are fun and help to tell the story. This is a Theodor Seuss Geisel Award Honor book.

I found a digital storyboard on a site storyboardthat.com where you can make your own storyboards.  This includes board on chapter summaries, vocabulary, characters, theme and text connections.
